It's been oft discussed and a long time coming, but now you can just ask the Google Assistant to dial one of your contacts for you! With just a push of a button or the sound of your voice, you can ask google assistant to do all sorts of things like set reminders, read the news, or, if you have a smart home, get dinner started!
At Insane Audio we are constantly adding new features to make sure our customers always have the latest and greatest. This writeup walks you through exactly how to setup voice dialing in your Insane Audio 3000 series head unit. As always, if you have any trouble at all, our staff is here 7 days a week to make sure you have an excellent experience.
This article applies to all Insane Audio 3000 Series Head Units that on software version 1.5 or later. If you have Insane Audio's super awesome JL3001 then you have a 3000 series head unit. But here at Insane Audio we are always updating our hardware and software so you may very well have one of our other products and still be on our 3000 series.
You can confirm your product is a 3000 series product by checking the build number of your unit.
To do this, goto Settings --> System --> About Machine --> Build Number
The build number starts with "rk33990userdebug 9 PI" followed by a date code.
If your build number starts with "rk3399-userdebug 9 PI" then you're in luck! You've got a 3000 series product, read on.
If your date code is 20200922 (September, 22, 2020) or later then you already have v1.5. You’re good to go!
If your date code is something earlier then September, 22, 2020 then you'll want to update your software. Follow this link (it says JL3001, but if you've got a 3000 series product, it applies to you) https://insaneaudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4467
Bluetooth Pairing and Setup
Open the Bluetooth App
You may or may not have other paired devices already, this makes no difference. Press the Setting button
Take note of the Device Name and Pin Number
Now, go to your phone and find the Bluetooth section under its settings. Please keep in mind that all phones are different and your settings will vary, but you should be able to connect most smartphones to our Insane Audio head unit (including Apple, Android and Windows devices). Note this image is taken from an Android device running Android Version 10. Your screen will likely have a different layout.
Find and click on your head unit name under available devices
When asked to approve the pairing request, press “OK”
When asked to “allow access to contacts” click “Allow”. This will allow your Insane Audio Head Unit to access your contacts for various purposes like phone calls and navigation.
When you return to the pairing screen you should now see your device under ‘Paired Devices’
Setup Google Voice Match
Open the Google Assistant App
Assuming you’ve never gone through Voice Match setup, you should see one of the following screen. Click “More” or “Get Started”
Click 'Turn On'
This will begin the “Voice Match” process. Click “More”
You have to choose to agree to Google’s terms for using these features
At this stage the Google Voice Match setup will begin. Follow the voice and screen prompts (they may not resemble the images below as Google continuously improves their product)
Once Google Voice Match setup is complete you can choose your own preferences on the next screen. Then click Next
You’re all set! Click Finish
Making The Call
Now that we’ve got everything setup and configured, it’s time for the fun part, actually making a call.
For example you can say, “hey Google, High Sierra” The Google assistant will pop up to process your request
After a few moments you will see a screen with a blue ‘Call Button’. This is part of Google’s functionality to ensure the number chosen by the system is the number you actually asked for. Press “Call”
The first time you do this you’ll receive a dialogue box from the Android system asking which application you want to make the default dialer. Choose IA Dialer then Always.
At this point… The big finish… Your Insane Audio Head Unit will place your call through the Bluetooth connection with your phone!
We hope this guide has been helpful and now you can use the Google Assistant to not only dial numbers, but take advantage of all sorts of Google Assistant features.
